The Palestinian-Israel Conflict Essay - 2191 Words

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been in existence since the end of 19th century. The conflict became an international concern when Israel got its independence in 1948. This conflict has resulted in a lot of minor conflicts and 5major wars. Tensions between the Arabs and Zionists started after the 1800’s when the immigration of the European Jews to Palestine was on the increase. The population of Palestine from 1882-1883 was 468,000 and the population consisted of 408 Muslims, 44,000 Christians and 15,000 Jews. During this time Palestine was under the Ottoman Empire. From 1915 to 1916, there was an exchange of letters between the Sharif of Mecca Husayn bin Ali and the British high commissioner in Egypt Sir Henry McMahon. The Arab side†¦show more content†¦This plan was to create Arab and Jewish states from Palestine. The Jewish public accepted this plan but the Arabs rejected it. In 1948, the British mandate announced their intentions to terminate its mandate in Palestine due to the conflict between the Palestinians and the Jews. Britain faced difficulties trying to bring peace to Palestine. After the British mandate left Palestine, the Jewish people declared the establishment of a Jewish state (Israel). On the same day, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Iraq intervened and this marked the first Arab-Israeli war. After this war, over 800,000 Palestinian Arabs became refugees as a result of the independence of Israel. Also, Jews in the Arab countries were made to abandon their properties and flee. In 1956, Gemal Abdul Nassir announced that he wanted the nationalization of the Suez Canal. This canal has been operated by Britain and France since the 18th century and due to this, tensions rose between Egypt, Britain and France. Israel regarded Gemal Abdul Nassir as a threat to its national security and due to this it was easy for Britain and France to convince Israel in the invasion of Egypt and the overthrowing of its president. Israel invaded Sinai Peninsula, Britain and France landed their troops later on the pretence of separating the fighting parties. This was the start of the Suez crisis. Another limitation is that the research should have considered characteristics of work based learning trainers and instructors in the academic qualification with knowledge of work based subjects, increased experience in polytechnic industry, increased interest in learning and teaching along with analyzing the awareness of work based learning implementation responsibility. Another limitation is due to the time constraints the research has only considered respondents from the Northern region of polytechnic Malaysia (Mokhtar Husain, 2015). To gather more reliable data, the rese arch should have considered gathering responses from participants all across Malaysia that could have been highly useful in realizing the strengths and weaknesses of work based learning implemented within the Polytechnic sector relied on perspectives and experiences faced by the instructors. Definitions of certain common terms that are used in the research are mentioned under: Work Based Learning: Work based learning can be defined as an educational process which offers students with real life work experiences in which they can apply technical along with academic capabilities along with developing employability skills (Mokhtar Husain, 2015). Work based learning concept is observed to remain within practice for decades and is served as an integral part of technical and career education process. Work based learning experiences take place within a work setting basically from the employers worksite (Leary et al., 2013). Certain work based learning activities are coordinated with school based conducts that attempts to show students the reason for their learning. Work Related Learning: Work related learning can be defined as learning activities that can be coordinated with academic programmers that can be vocational or non-vocational (Jiang, Zhong Liang, 2014). This learning process includes work placements and experiences in the company, industry mentoring system, job shadowing within the workplace, role plays, and simulations ad case studies along with professional skills modules. There are five principles of work related learning that are developed to offer a benchmark for effective practice and guide staff in preparing new programmers and modules (Leary et al., 2013). Service Learning: This can be defined as learning and teaching strategy which integrates a constructive community service with reflection and instruction for enriching the learning experience, teaching civic responsibility along with straitening communities. Service learning offers opportunities to students in advancing their civic engagement capabilities. Through working with the community members students can be capable to enhance the group, interpersonal and organizational capabilities. They can also attain vital experience working along with different members within the community (Jiang, Zhong Liang, 2014). Service learning can be defined as a philosophy along with a model for community advancement which is employed as an instructional strategy to address content standards along with learning goals. The Genre of Epic Literature and Poetry Epic poetry, related to heroic poetry, is a narrative art form common to many ancient and modern societies. In some traditional circles, the term epic poetry is restricted to the Greek poet Homers works The Iliad and The Odyssey and, sometimes grudgingly, the Roman poet Virgils The Aeneid. However, beginning with the Greek philosopher Aristotle who collected barbarian epic poems, other scholars have recognized that similarly structured forms of poetry occur in many other cultures. Two related forms of narrative poetry are trickster tales that report activities of very clever disrupter beings, human and god-like both; and heroic epics, in which the heroes are ruling class, kings and the like. In epic poetry, the hero is an extraordinary but also an ordinary human being and although he may be flawed, he is always brave and valorous. Characteristics of Epic Poetry The characteristics of the Greek tradition of epic poetry are long-established and summarized below. Almost all of these characteristics can be found in epic poetry from societies well outside of the Greek or Roman world. The content of an epic poem always includes the glorious deeds of heroes (Klea andron in Greek), but not just those types of things- the Iliad included cattle raids as well.   All About the Hero There is always an underlying  ethos  that says that to be a hero is to always be the best person he (or she, but mainly he) can be, pre-eminent beyond all others, primarily physical and displayed in battle. In Greek epic tales, intellect is plain common sense, there are never tactical tricks or strategic ploys, but instead, the hero succeeds because of great valor, and the brave man never retreats. Homers greatest poems are about the heroic age, about the men who fought at Thebes and Troy (a. 1275–1175 BCE), events that took place about 400 years before Homer wrote the Illiad and Odyssey. Other cultures epic poems involve a similarly distant historic/legendary past. The powers of the heroes of epic poetry are human-based: the heroes are normal human beings who are cast on a large scale, and although gods are everywhere, they only act to support or in some cases thwart the hero. The tale has a believed historicity, which is to say the narrator is assumed to be the mouthpiece of the goddesses of poetry, the Muses, with no clear line between history and fantasy. Narrator and Function The tales are told in a mannerly composition: they are often formulaic in structure, with repeated conventions and phrases. Epic poetry is performed, either the bard sings or chants the poem and he is often accompanied by others who act out the scenes. In Greek and Latin epic poetry, the meter is strictly dactylic hexameter; and the normal assumption is that epic poetry is long, taking hours or even days to perform. The narrator has both objectivity and formality, he is seen by the audience as a pure narrator, who speaks in the third person and the past tense. The poet is thus the custodian of the past. In Greek society, the poets were itinerant who traveled throughout the region performing at festivals, rites of passage like funerals or weddings, or other ceremonies. The poem has a social function, to please or entertain an audience. It is both serious and moral in tone but it doesnt preach.
